To,
‘The Vibrant Colors of Pakistan’ is a solo photographic exhibition by Yasir Nisar which is to be held from 14th June to 19th June, 2010 in Alhamra Art Gallery. The exhibition depicts Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking beauty, exploring the cultural diversity from the Indus Valley to modern-day Karachi, all aimed at highlighting its true colors. The content varies from the mundane daily aspects of life, to elements that are purely human, dealing with the various facets of Pakistan’s life. It takes us away from the transient to what is permanent, the essential beauty, dignity and vastness of what Pakistan is all about.
The exhibition will be opened by famous writer Mr. Ata Ul Haq Qasmi on Monday, June 14th at 18:30 hrs. An approximate guest list of around 500 people has been invited at the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition will be covered by many print and electronic media. The exhibition will continue till 19th June 2010.
Mission Statement:
Pakistan is a richly textured country with a distinguished history and an increasingly vibrant contemporary cultural scene. This is especially true of the arts, including photography. Within modern photography, content ranges from the yawningly banal and daringly abstract to the uniquely human.
It is the latter that the proposed exhibition will attempt to bring to life. Just as the subjects introduced in such images are individuals with their own identities, so the images conveyed will reflect their own distinct individual visions of Pakistan’s humanity and identity.
The theme of “The Vibrant Colors of Pakistan” appears timely since the international media have recently focused almost exclusively on a politically turbulent Pakistan, promoting stereotypical images of a violent country infected by fanaticism. “The Vibrant Colors of Pakistan” aims to look around the screen of stereotypes.
